ABOUT THE ARTIST
Judith Tinkl has been a fibre artist for well over fifty years and a freelance teacher, exhibit organizer and a volunteer with many organizations for many of those years.
Actively exhibiting since at least 1982, Judith became a faculty member at the Ontario College of Art as it was then in 1990 and was subsequently an Assistant Dean for eight years, and then an Associate Professor retiring in 2009. That year Judith's work was shown in Unity and Diversity at the Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Korea, and later in France.
Judith was a juror and exhibitor at the Fibre Festival in Oakville. She had a one man show, Piece by Piece at the Visual Arts Centre in Bowmanville, Pattern & Beyond at the Lindsay Gallery and another at the Georgian College Gallery in Barrie and Soft Geometry in Medicine Hat. In 2017 Judith was part of Durham Reach an exhibition at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa and her work was shown there in Piecework in 2023, and at The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum and several other galleries.
As well as exhibiting and teaching Judith has been active in many organizations, in particular as president of both the Ontario Crafts Council and Surfacing. She was involved with the Textile Museum of Canada for many years and chair of the Uxbridge Studio Tour from 2011-14.
