Catharina Goldnau
Catharina Goldnau mixes her own clay by adding organic materials, altering surfaces and the traditional ceramic composure of the clay, leading to uniquely textured works that you will adore.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Catharina grew up in a rural part of northern Germany, close to the East German border. After working as a French Immersion Elementary Teacher and raising four children, Catharina went to explore her passion for art at the Central Tech Adult Art Program in Toronto.
A love affair with clay led her to become a full-time student at Sheridan College. Catharina graduated Sheridan College in 2018 and now works from her studios in Toronto and Beaverton.
In 2021 she became the president of Fusion Clay and Glass Ontario and now works with many clay and glass artists on behalf of the organization while also continuing her own work.
Catharina explores the interplay between ceramics and nature in a variety of ways. At times, she mixes her own clay by adding organic materials, altering surfaces and traditional ceramic composure of clay.
Colourful garden sculptures that rise vertically reminiscent of totems explore how ceramic sculptures accentuate and become part of, a garden or outdoor space. Larger indoor totems incorporate a variety of plants and plantings, create an interplay between ceramics and vegetation in an interior setting.
All totems can be used inside or outside the house/garden/patio.
Most ceramic elements are frost-resistant and can be left outside year round.
If desired, the artist will deliver and mount the totem in your garden or home.
